Lately I seem to have an overabundance of wool in my fabric stash. As a matter of fact, I had enough of the brown and ivory wool for two capes, this wool purse, and probably three or four more. It was on sale at Fabric.com last year and I guess I must have stocked up. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, since I have so much of it, I decided I was going to make a purse to match the cape I made two weeks ago. I love wool bags. They’re so classic and look good with a suit or jeans. (Forgive my iron in the background. It’s cooling off, so I didn’t want to move it right away.)

Wool Purse

Making any kind of purse or bag is always so cool. It looks like a complete mess until the very end. Then suddenly you have this great bag. For this one, I used black canvas for the straps and they’re attached to the side of the bag, rather than in the top seam. The interior fabric is a flannel-backed black satin and the interior pockets are sized to fit my new Note 5 (another plus of sewing your own bags :-)). I used a light fusible interfacing on the back of the lining fabric before sewing it to my Soft and Stable. I never use anything else for my bags. Sure, it costs a little more, but you get what you pay for and it gives my bags great structure. Here are some of my during construction pictures.

Like I said, a complete mess and then suddenly, you have a bag!

And on that note, I bid you goodnight ๐Ÿ™‚
