This cross-body bag was one of the few “winning” moments I’ve had in the past year or so with my teenage daughter. I keep telling people that I’m never going to make it out of the teenage years alive. They think I’m joking. I’m so not. K is at that age right now where nothing I do is right. But this bag was a total win.
PSSA week was tough for us, because it was our first year of cyber school. We had to get used to going somewhere to take the test, and there were so many rules about what you could take and what you couldn’t. Time was also an issue, because some finished early while others took the entire allowed time period. Needless to say, she needed something in which she could carry her book, calculator, and snack that in her words, did not suck.
World of Warcraft is her game of choice for video games. It was mine until she took over my account. Now I think I’m going on a good year since I’ve even logged in. Shortly before we took our chick road trip to Houston last year, I bought an Alliance stencil from a shop on Etsy. Clothes are also an issue right now, so rather than buy her a bunch of things she’d hate, I bought different colored t-shirts and stenciled the Alliance logo on them. Problem solved.
Any way, I remembered I had the stencil, and I figured since she did not like purses, a cross-body bag seemed like a good compromise. Kind of a book bag/purse combination. I cut out all the pieces first and then stenciled the logo onto the front. I sewed up the strap while I waited for the paint to dry. After ironing it with a pressing cloth to make sure I didn’t get any paint on my iron or pressing table, I finished sewing the bag together.
She didn’t exactly express excitement when I showed it to her, but she didn’t say she hated it either. For the mom of a teenage girl, that’s a total win. 🙂
