Cardigan

I made this cardigan last week in a very loose sweater knit. It’s nice, but I wanted something a little more opaque. I decided to make my second try of the Lekala Pattern No. 5867 in a rayon spandex jersey knit. The material is 96% rayon and 4% spandex. I think it looks great!

The back of the cardigan is cut on the fold. The front two pieces are then cut separately because they are much too big to cut two at a time. I added two inches to the sleeve length before cutting as well. Before the shoulder seams are sewn, bias tape is used in the neckline of the back piece to ensure the stability of the neckline. There is a lot of material on the front pieces. If left along, the neck would pull and stretch. I used all three of my main machines…my new Viking Opal, Brother serger, and Brother coverstitch machine. All in all, a great pattern. Both easy and quick to work up, and it looks awesome.

This most assuredly calls for celebration. 🙂
