As I was working on my bathroom remodel, I tried to do some small side projects to keep me from going completely insane. I found it helped distract me from the mess I had going on in the bathroom. This little vanity table and lighted mirror was a spur-of-the-moment thing I did after making a Saturday morning trip to the Goodwill store.

For the moment, we only have the use of the upstairs bathroom. I’m awaiting construction on the one downstairs, so my daughter and I are sharing the upstairs bathroom. Unfortunately, she’s like my mini me. So living with her is like living with a smaller version of me. Let me tell you, living with me sucks. I will be the first to say that I am not a morning person and with my daughter heading fast toward the teenage years, she definitely is not either. We both needed some separation while getting ready in the morning, so I created a little beauty area in the corner of my bedroom.

I found the little table at Goodwill for around $3.00. I used wood glue to add some little heart cutouts that I knocked off a shelf my dad had given me (the shelf, sans hearts, is in my bathroom). Then I painted the table with black and gray chalk paint and waxed. Voila, a cute little vanity table.

My super-fantastic boss had dropped off some little cane dining chairs awhile back, and I keep using them as I find an opportunity. The chairs themselves were well loved, but with little paint, they’re perfect. Plus, I would only be sitting on it for about 10 minutes in the morning, so sturdiness was not an issue. I painted the chair to match the table and I had a set!

Believe it or not, the mirror is actually the front of a medicine cabinet that I also found at Goodwill. Weirdest thing I have ever seen. The front was wood, but the back was plastic and rather disgusting. I pulled off the cabinet part and ditched it. Then I filled in the hinge holes and painted the frame. It’s a great size for this area.

For the lighted part of the lighted mirror, these are just regular vanity lights from Home Depot. Okay, one is from Home Depot and the other my dad gave me. I wired them together and used a lamp cord with a switch for my on/off button. Then I mounted them to the wall. Eventually, I’ll get a third light to go over the top.

Finally, the gallery! I won’t lie, the pictures are slightly grainy so as to distract you away from the fact that I am missing two lightbulbs. πŸ˜‰

And lastly, some interesting lighting effects I found in Photoshop! πŸ™‚
