So last night I made another attempt at a cozy. I had planned on waiting until I finished a few other projects, but I wanted something different to wear to work today. I had to fight with the munchkin because she really, really wanted that fabric for something or other, but in the end, I bribed her with candy. lol
I felt like the flowery one I made was way too long, including the sleeves. So I did things a bit different. I think I should have left the sleeves along because I like a little length on them and these just fit. Here’s how I started.
I measured the width across my back, just below the shoulders. I added two inches to that measurement and then divided by two. Then I determined where I wanted the end to fall, mid bum for this one. I added 6 inches to that for the extra material at the neck. Then I worked with the numbers that I used for the last one and shortened it up a bit. So I ended up with a rectangle 66 inches by 27 inches. I folded it in half, then having a rectangle 33 inches by 27 inches. I measured down 6 inches and in from the fold my 1/2 measurement from my back above. That is where I placed the armhole.
For the sleeves, I like them a bit on the loose side, so I took a sleeve from another pattern that fit well and added an inch all the way around. But, I took off an inch from the length for this pattern, which I wish I wouldn’t have done now. I sewed those up, pinned them in the main rectangle, and sewed them in. For this cozy, the only edges I finished were the sleeves. I gave them a small hem. And here’s how it turned out.
This will probably be my last cozy for awhile…mainly because I’m out of fabric now. 🙂 But what a great piece. A bunch of these will certainly extend a wardrobe.
Bedtime for this girl. Cheers to you all.
