I have so many projects that I just haven’t had a chance to post here. I have tried to put them on Facebook as much as possible, but I still haven’t gotten to all of them. This old wooden painter’s ladder belonged to my mother’s father. It’s been sitting in my spare garage since I moved into my house two years ago. Before that, it sat in the garage at my apartment. One of the steps broke and the ladder lost its usefulness years before that, but I did not want to throw it away. I had used it for many years at my rental property, so it was covered in every paint type you could possibly imagine, including a thick coat of horrible textured paint.
One afternoon after returning the lawn mower to the spare garage, I spied it in the corner. I thought, that would be a cool project for one of my insomnia nights. So, I dragged it out, spiders and all. I spent the next few hours scraping the textured paint off. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I did that. I really wanted the other colors to show through, so I did not scrape off any of the flat paint. Next, I gave it a good sanding and then washed it. After that, I leaned it up against the wall in my dining room and waited for an insomnia night.
And this is what I ended up with.
I have to say, I love it. Not only does it look great, but I get to have something of my grandfather’s in my living room. It’s nice to be able to tell my daughter that it belonged to her great-grandfather. After a little distressing, the other paint colors were able to show through. I love the shabby chic look. 🙂
