This dresser rehab is one of my favorite projects. It’s amazing to me that one piece of furniture can become so many different things. It started out because I needed a TV stand for my rec room in the basement. A couple of friends graciously gave me a very pretty dresser. You don’t see heavy wood like that much any more. It was a little too tall though, so out came the saw. And these are the lovely things that follow. Before I go through the entire process, I have to say that the rustic sign is my absolute favorite. And the phrase “You create your own happiness.” is something I’ve said for years and totally mine. If it was set to music, it would be my theme song. lol I love having it displayed in my living room. 🙂
Anyway, things started off with this cute dresser.
Said friend cut it in half for me, because that was a couple of years ago and before my foray into power tools. I then painted it with chalk paint, distressed it, antiqued it, and waxed. It made the perfect TV stand.
After that, I took a rather long dresser break until one day I decided I needed somewhere to store my hats and gloves near the door to the garage. So I took the two left over drawers and built shelves out of them. I put it on top of a step stool, painted both pieces the same color, (Annie Sloan – Old White with clear wax), and presto, new storage.
With the three inside pieces that held the drawers, I made photo shelves.
And lastly, the two sides were painted with chalk paint, distressed, and eventually stenciled. The stenciling was interesting so I have a separate post about that coming later 🙂
Cheers!
