Last year I made a fantastic black tote bag from a remnant I found at Joanns for maybe $6.00. This bag is so strong that I’ve carried law books, shoes, contact solution, and a bunch of other things all at one time. I love it and carry it to work every day. While I was waiting for the munchkin’s school clothes to dry last night, I was sifting through my fabric and I found the rest of that remnant. I’ve been growing bored with they purse I made awhile back, so I figured, what the heck. I had just enough of the black to make an 11 1/2 by 12 1/2 inch bag that matches my tote bag. I had a fat quarter of some cute black and silver fabric in there as well. So, I grabbed that along with some Soft and Stable and got to cutting. I won’t go into a lot of detail, but I did take some photos as I was sewing. Here’s a glimpse of my finished product 🙂
Here is what I started out with.
After cutting my squares of the lining, outer fabric, and Soft and Stable to the above-mentioned dimensions. I also cut the inside pockets and handle tabs. All of these were then pressed.
Here’s after I sewed the Soft and Stable and pockets to the lining.
Next, right sides together plus tabs and handles to the outer fabric.
Finally, outer bag inserted into lining to sew around the top.
Bag turned and PRESTO! A beautiful bag matching my tote.
And lastly, a weird, disappearing cat picture. lol
So, that was my quick project for this week. Cheers!
